New York Times: In Estonia, a Hotel Keeps Its Promise

Are writers allowed to play favorites with their articles? If my Hyderabad story for the New York Times earlier this year is my favorite child, decease my latest story might rank second. Last summer I spent 10 days road-tripping through the Baltics, surgeon a journey that was largely inspired by one random hotel I was obsessed with. I’d read about Padaste Manor on Estonia’s quiet Muhu Island a few years ago and never really stopped thinking about it, and last year, I finally made the loooong trip (24-hour flight, two-hour drive, half-hour ferry) necessary to get there. My story on the experience is out in this weekend’s New York Times, but here’s a spoiler: Padaste Manor totally lives up to the hype.
